Farmhouse {Before}

Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

The farmhouse is definitely a lot different than anything we’ve owned before.  I really wanted something with character and this house has all the charm.  It makes me feel like we have one of those cute homes back East, not typical of Arizona and I love that.  We both knew we wanted land and this place offers it.  Lastly, location.  Close to great schools and close to both sides of our families.  Everything else was cosmetic and we knew it had potential.   A lot of potential.  I thought I’d write a post about all the before’s.  That way you can see a glimpse of the farmhouse before the make over.  It’s currently in renovation mode, painfully slow but I’m also the most impatient person ever.  I’m starting to see progress though and every time I see something new done, I get totally giddy.  Here is the before house tour.  All pics are unedited so you get the real idea of things. I hope you can imagine what it could be though 🙂
Here’s the front porch.  One of the most favorite parts about the house.  It makes me so happy to see the kids running and playing while I can sit and relax.  What’s even more exciting is that it’s getting cooler, so gimme blankets, some wine and I will be one happy mama.
Great room.  I personally love this floor plan.  We hardly used our formal sitting | formal dining room in our last house and actually turned the front room into a studio.  I love how cozy it already feels and can just feel all the warm gatherings in our future.

I’m so excited to start revealing the fresh look to you guys.  Hope you follow us along with our journey.  XO

Ideas for our New Kitchen

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetWe moved out of our home this week and it was definitely bittersweet.  We were newlyweds there, brought our babies home to that house, started the journey with Crew & Lu, and countless memories were made.
I just hope the new homeowners love it just as much as we did.
I was an emotional wreck… more than I thought I ever would be, but I am so excited for our new house.  It’s on a lot more land than where we were at previously- leaving so much potential for a garden, chicken coop, and maybe some goats if I can talk the hubs into it.  I guess I should settle in first before adding to our crazy schedules.  But in true Uyen fashion, I like to dream big and take on too much.  HA!
Right now we are staying with my parents until we fix up a few rooms in the new home.  I thought it would be tough moving back in with the rents, but we have been so spoiled with Vietnamese home cooking.  Ask me in a few weeks though.  We’ve only been here a couple of days and maybe with time I might go bat shit crazy. Although, I am very thankful we have family to fall back on and it’s been really nice to spend time with them. We figured we’d renovate it before we move in so we don’t have to deal with dust and noise.  Plus, we will be painting the entire house so airing it out is probably a good idea.

Processed with VSCO with a6 presetThe first space we are changing up is the kitchen.  I love the layout but as you can see, there is just brown everywhere.  From the flooring, the island, to the cabinets; it’s just a little too rustic for me.  Here is my inspiration below…

I really want to stay true to my “modern mini farm” vibe and love the idea of a two tone kitchen.  I will be keeping all the main cabinets white with the center island in navy.  All doors will have brass knobs/handles.  I would love a farmhouse sink with brass fixtures with a cute wall pendant above the sink.  Totally looking forward to being able to do the dishes with a view.  Also planning to do a clean subway tile backsplash.

We will be replacing the current island with one that has more storage and where we can have seating.  I’m still debating on what pendants to put over this area.  Right now I’m torn between these looks…

Honestly, these floors really sold me.  I fell in love with them instantly.  We have a lot of work ahead of us…here we go.  Thanks for coming along for the ride!

October 19, 2016 - 9:42 am - Hi Blair!
Thanks so much for following along. We are in South Gilbert. Literally down the street from a cow farm. Haha. I love Arcadia so much and have friends that live in that area. It is really beautiful especially with all the revocations happening in the homes there. And yes, I’ve been researching about chickens and goats like crazy. DM me over instagram and we can chat. XO

Laundry heaven

Let’s get straight to the point.  I don’t mind putting laundry in the wash.  It’s the folding and putting away that makes me want to start happy hour early.  Ha!  I think the worst is not finding enough hangers to hang up everything I need.  I recently found Common Good and legit obsessed.  It makes doing laundry more pleasant and knowing that they use 100% pure essential oil scents keeps my mind at ease.  Not only that but they are certified cruelty free which is so important to me.  Ella helped me sort through our pile of laundry the other day, but she was too busy sniffing the lavender satchel.  She kept saying…”smell good mama”.  How could I disagree?  I love that both of my kiddos are getting older and instilling hard work is important to me.  I make their chores into games now.  Who can separate colors and whites the fastest?  Crew is getting pretty good and well Ella still needs quite a bit of help but that’s ok.  I know she will get it one day.

And my absolute favorite is this linen water.  I have been spraying it on my bedding before bedtime and it totally relaxes me.  Hope you check their line out.  So many good choices for home products and I’m sure you’ll get addicted like me.

Modern boys room

I had so much fun revamping Crew’s room into more of a modern classic take of a big boy room.  I kept the striped walls the same from when I painted it before he was born.  I love that the gray and white was classic enough that I didn’t have to change it.  I invested in big pieces that will be a forever in our home and if I want to change it up in the future, I would just have to switch out accent items like wall hangings, posters, pillows, etc.  I added the Bereber Black rug by Lorena Canals and I love how it finished the room with a nice pop.  It stands out and is perfectly masculine.  And better yet, it’s totally machine washable.  How great is that?  Crew is so excited about his room and says, “how cool it is”.  Which makes me happy because I really wanted to create a space where it feels like his own.  His own to grow into and a place to make all his childhood memories.  Let them be little.

I will try to tag all the items in his room.  If I’m missing something just comment and I will try to answer the best I can.  :)

Lindsey - Love this! You just gave me shared guest room/nursery inspiration 🙂 Where is the blue lamp, brown baskets, and striped basket from?

July 20, 2016 - 8:55 pm - Thank you so much! So glad you like it. Sorry I didn’t include those… I bought them a few years ago. The blue lamp and the brown baskets are from Target. And the striped basket is either from Ross or TJ Max. They have great ones at Home goods too. Hope it helps 🙂

Julie - Where is the ceiling fan from? I know, weird question but I’ve been looking for one just like that!

August 18, 2016 - 4:41 pm

Meghan - What colors/paint brand did you use for the grey and white stripes? I love how crisp it looks!!

September 3, 2016 - 5:28 pm - Hi! Honestly we brought it along with us from our old house 6 Years ago. I have been researching new fans on Amazon and they have some amazing choices 🙂

September 3, 2016 - 5:30 pm - I’m so sorry Meghan, I was so bad at keeping track of paint colors. I think the white was Swiss Coffee and the grey was definitely Behr from Home Depot. I tried to pick a true grey with no specific under tones. Sorry I wasn’t much help

Take Me Back My Younger Years

I was recently at a friends house and they asked my age.  I’m not easily offended and feel as though I’m an open book.  Being Asian, our age is always questionable so I thought it would be fun to have them guess.  Once they did their guessing which was younger than I actually am, I stated my age with a such conviction. I said with my quirky face “I’m 32”.  But Lance (my husband) was standing next to me, quickly corrected me and informed me that I was actually a year older.  What the F.  Seriously how am I getting to the point where I LEGIT forget how old I am?  Needless to say, it was a sad day for me.  I don’t feel my age…. I still feel and act as though I’m in my mid 20’s.  I think we all feel this way at our mature state.  Ha. It’s crazy to think how time passes so quickly. There are pros and cons to aging and I can honestly say that I’m so content with where I am right now.  But it’s also so much fun to reminisce about the good old days.  Lance and I were jamming out to music we were into during Junior High and High School.  So I thought it would be fun to make up a playlist of late 90’s and Millennium music.  There are so many more awesome songs so a part two might be in the future.  If you are around my age (33), I hope it brings a smile to your face and some lip synching.  Don’t be ashamed, these songs were on repeat for us.
Hope this brought you a good flashback 🙂
